- Pile e.g. "AI & Machine Learning"
- A group of related sub-piles. Named for the collective area — sometimes
borrowing names/phrases from the CHI 2026 subcommittee names.
- Sub-pile e.g. "Large Language Models"
- A semantically consistent term drawn from author keywords.
These are what we will use as "keywords" moving forward.
- Author keywords e.g. "large language models", "multimodal large language models"
- The normalized author keywords that make up a sub-pile. Hover a
sub-pile to see them in a pop-up — they are "connected" to that parent
sub-pile.
- Counts
- The number on a sub-pile (and pile) sums only keywords used by
≥2 CHI 2026 papers — single-use keywords are excluded, since a
keyword one paper used is not a reliable routing signal. The hover
pop-up lists every author keyword that landed in the sub-pile,
including single-use ones, so the pop-up's numbers will usually add up
to more than the sub-pile's badge.
Counts are strictly based on how frequently each
keyword appeared in the author keywords of accepted CHI 2026 papers.
